EBBSFLEET FC: BOG STANDARD
Non-League Ebbsfleet United FC are feeling FLUSH after scooping £100,000 pounds for having the worst toilets at any English football ground.
The Blue Square Premier League side were crowned ‘Best Loosers' after a fans' poll, pipping former Premier League sides Sheffield United, Barnsley and Bradford City to the top spot.
The club will receive the money to upgrade the loos at their Stonebridge Road stadium after getting more than 6,000 votes in the competition, run by bathroom store Plumb Center.
A statement on the Best Loosers website read: 'This major investment will be a huge boost to a club that have a proud history; once reaching the 4th round of the FA Cup in the 60s, but at times have struggled for survival.'
Chairman Phil Sonsara said: 'The upgrade is desperately needed and the toilets are archaic.'
The club are 16th in the league, with their next match at home to Chester City on Saturday.
The office manager Cheryl Wanless initially discovered the online competition and the club's worldwide support - Ebbsfleet are owned by fans as part of the MyFC scheme where supporters hold a share in the club - is thought to have brought in over 6,000 votes.
She told the Gravesend Reporter: 'Everybody at the club is thrilled to have won this prize. Our fans have been fantastic in the way they have responded to support our claim and votes have come in from all over the world.
'To beat much bigger clubs like Sheffield United and Oldham is a real achievement and it goes to show what can be done when we all work together.'
An Ebbsfleet FC spokesman added: 'The club would like to thank each and every supporter - together no doubt with members of their families and work colleagues - for the supreme effort by everybody involved.
'This was a superb example of the club, Fleet Trust, the fans and MyFC members coming together for a worthwhile community project and an object lesson in the power of social media to drive our cause!
'For Ebbsfleet the dream is nearly a reality.'
.............They seems almost proud of the achievment don't they!!??!!
On a personal level, I can't imagine any football ground toilet worse than the North Terrace loos at Fratton Park............
