Piercy spills his beans!

"A PIECE OF PIERCY"

The Interviews:

Name: James Piercy

Team Supported: Pompey

First Game Attended & it's Abiding Memory:
Notts County at Fratton in February 1991, won 2-1 and went with my dad so we could get tickets for the Tottenham FA Cup tie the following weekend. Abiding memory was ‘isn't live football great'.

Favourite Away Ground:
Maine Road before it was demolished was a pretty special ground. Great support and the PA played some cracking tunes.

Favourite Ever Match:
From a Pompey perspective beating Palace 3-2 at Selhurst in 2002 after going two-down. Paul Merson at his majestic best and Jason Crowe, goal-scoring hero. At the risk of being lynched for ‘massive time-ness' watching last year's Copa Libatadores Semi-Final at the Maracana between Fluminense and Boca was pretty special. Some of the most horrendous defending and goalkeeping I have ever seen but what a game. Fluminense won 3-1 after the first leg at the Bombanera was drawn 2-2 and made the final for the first time in their history. Safe to say the atmosphere was pretty crazy.

Favourite Ever Goal: Baggio's at Italia 1990 or Tardelli's at the 1982 final. Both give me goosebumps when I watch them. Just the passion and the emotion and what football is all about for me.

Fantasy X1:
1 - Gianluigi Buffon
2 - Cafu
3 - Stuart Pearce
4 - Zinedine Zidane
5 - Tony Adams
6 - Franco Baresi
7 - Paul Gascoigne
8 - Robert Prosinecki
9 - Guy Whittingham
10 - Diego Maradona
11 - Juan Roman Riquelme (he'll have 10 + 1) on his shirt.
Manager - Sir Bobby Robson

Hero in Football: Riquelme because I just love the way he plays the game and in an era of athletes and pace, he is an old-style playmaker who seems to make time stand still when he is in control of possession. I would beg, steal and borrow to get him in a Pompey shirt.

What state do you think English Football will be in 10years time?:
Difficult one because at some stage the money has to run out and no doubt there will be a number of recognized clubs doing a Leeds or Nottingham Forest. I would imagine there will be 20 foreign owners running the show and the FA Cup would have further diminished as a respectable competition.

First Single Ever Bought:
Civil War by Guns and Roses. Sorry nothing too embarrassing.

First Album Ever Bought: Nevermind - Nirvana

Last Album Bought: Before the Dawn Heals Us - M83.

Desert Island/Isle Of Mann Discs - What 5 Albums would you take?:
1 - DJ Shadow - Entroducing
2 - My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
3 - Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
4 - Ryan Adams - Love is Hell
5 - Stone Roses - Stone Roses

First Gig Attended: Dodgy at the Gosport Festival.

Favourite Gig Venue: Pompey Guildhall or the Wedgewood Rooms

Fantasy Band:
Vocals: Stephen Malkmus
Lead Guitar: Hendrix
Rhythm Guitar: Nick McCabe
Bass Guitar: Mani
Drums: Matt Cameron
Keyboards: Thom Yorke

Hero in Music: Josh Davis (DJ Shadow) or Mani

What state do you think the Music Industry will be in 10years time?:
Hopefully bands will treat albums with the respect they deserve and the download culture of taking one or two songs from a band but ignoring the rest will have bottomed out and calmed down. Alas, I don't think this will be the case.

Favourite Radio Show:
Friday night, 5Live, 7pm. Football show with Marcotti and Claridge. Great stuff.

First Film seen at the Cinema:
Not joking I think it was Return of the Jedi or the Transformers movie.

Favourite Films of All-Time:
1 - Apocalypse Now
2 - Raging Bull
3 - Goodfellas
4 - Platoon
5 - The Big Lebowski

Favourite Actor: Has to be Pacino.

Favourite Comedian: Steve Coogan but only really because of Partridge because Paul/Pauline Calf aside the rest of his stuff is pretty shit.

Favourite Sitcom: Partridge.

Favourite TV Show: Either Gazetta Football Italia for nostalgia or Partridge

Favourite Joke: I'm not a gag man. Always forget them.

Favourite Author: Novels wise, James Ellroy

What 5 Books will you always go back to:
1 - 1984 - George Orwell
2 - American Tabloid - James Ellroy
3 - Catch 22 - Joseph Heller (only because I can't get into it and keep trying to over and over again)
4 - Broken Dreams - Tom Bower
5 - The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins

Hero in Literature: Does Dylan Thomas count?

Most money won on a bet: Probably £20. I rarely bet and when I do I lose.

Favourite City: For times spent either Auckland, Sydney or Portsmouth

Favourite Cuisine: Indian

Favourite Drink: Guinness
